Since its very beginning, the North Texas Irish Festival has
brought to its Dallas audience a wide variety of exhibitions,
workshops, plays, demonstrations and lectures detailing the various
Irish and Celtic influences on Texas and the Southwest.
We also offer complimentary space to a large number of local
Celtic and Irish organizations that partner with and compliment the
SCMA in their programs on Celtic heritage identity awareness. The
Cultural area includes the Tara Stage, located at the far east end
of Centennial Hall where we will feature programs highlighting the
Irish-Mexican connection, as well as music workshops and
storytellers. Adjacent to the Tara Stage are the
cultural booths where local Celtic
organizations offer information and demonstrations on a variety of
things Irish, from wool making and weaving to the International Rose
of Tralee contest. For the first time this year we have
extended a warm welcome to a number of the local Scottish Clans and
the Scottish Clans of North Texas. They have settled in the Scottish
Village located across from the Trinity Stage in the center of
Centennial Hall. There has long been strong
connections between the Irish and the Scots in their music, ancestry
and culture. Indeed, Scotia was one of the earliest names for Ireland,
so named, it was said, from Scota, the daughter of Pharaoh. Spend
time in this wonderful area and visit with our friends, learn of
their work and, if you are interested, sign up for membership and
support their programs.
